Speculation Mounts on New Trump VP: Is This Florida Senator the Choice?

With President Trump clinching the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, speculation is rife about his choice of vice presidential candidate.

This week, buzz has emerged that Senator Marco Rubio of Florida is being considered as a potential running mate. Despite Rubio's name being a surprise to some, a Florida GOP operative mentioned that signals from Trump’s circle suggest Rubio is a serious contender.

He stated that he had not discussed the matter with Trump's campaign team, emphasizing, “I've never talked to [Trump] about the vice presidency.”

Sen. Rubio reflected on his past rivalry with Trump during the 2016 GOP presidential race, noting their effective collaboration during Trump's presidency.

Since both Trump and Rubio live in Florida, constitutional stipulations would necessitate one of them moving if Rubio were chosen as VP, according to the Constitution's Article II, Section I, Clause 3, which requires electors to vote for candidates not both residing in their state.

Trump has mentioned that his VP selection would not necessarily boost his election chances, but a poor choice could be detrimental.

Should Rubio be selected and accept, he would have to vacate his Senate seat, enabling Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida to appoint a successor.

NBC News characterized Rubio as "young and telegenic," with more federal experience than Vice President Kamala Harris. Described as appealing both on paper and on screen, Rubio, born in Miami to working-class Cuban immigrants, presents a compelling profile for Trump's ticket.

While campaigning, Trump's team intends to seek feedback from supporters and evaluate the fundraising abilities of potential VP candidates. NBC highlighted Rubio's fundraising prowess, noting his near $50 million campaign funds raised in 2016.
